Over the past few weeks, the municipality of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, in collaboration with the MRC Pontiac and the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation, thanks to the Fonds régions et ruralité’s Soutien à la compétence de développement local et régional des MRC component, has invited its citizens to submit community project ideas for funding ranging from $2,000 to $20,000. Eligible projects fall into one or more of the following categories: tourism, culture, economic growth, agriculture, socio-community or environment. We received a total of 15 projects submitted by the community! All submitted projects have been evaluated and selected by a committee of volunteers, and a public vote to select the winning project.

Following the public vote, we are delighted to announce the winning project:

👉👉👉 A generator for the Harrington Community Centre. The installation of a generator in this location will ensure the continuation of services and activities during future power outages 🔌and may serve as a central location in the event of an emergency situation.🚨

Thank you to everyone who submitted project ideas and for all those that voted! Your participation will go along way in the development of this and future community projects.

Subject:  Rising waters along the Ottawa River

Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board – Monday April 28, 2025

Levels are expected to peak starting Wednesday-Thursday between Lake Coulonge and Lake Deschenes and starting Friday-Saturday from Gatineau down to the Montreal Region. Uncertain weather factors play into estimating peak levels. On April 28 peak level estimates are: Pembroke (113.05 m), Lac Coulonge (108.35 m), Chats Lake (75.40 m), Lake Deschenes (60.00 m), Gatineau -Hull marina (44.00 m) and Thurso (42.60 m).

At this time, we do not want to cause alarm, as the river remains at a level expected to have only minimal impact in certain areas. However, we strongly encourage all residents who may have been affected by river levels in the past to take appropriate precautions. We will continue to monitor levels and inform the public if the situation becomes more serious.

Portion of certain private roads are currently CLOSED and impassable.  We ask to respect the signs and not travel down any roads when not necessary.  Should your road become inaccessible, please contact the Municipal Office ASAP.  Residents are advised that emergency vehicles will not be able to access roads that are closed due to flooding.

Sandbags and sand are available for residents in need at the Municipal Garage at Demers Centre at 450 chemin du Rang 5 for residents of the municipality of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes.

We ask to be respectful of everyone’s needs and requests and only take sandbags if your main dwelling is in imminent danger.
