Notice to residents of the Pontiac Extreme cold: Help reduce electricity use during peak periods

February 6, 2026

Hydro Québec wishes to inform residents that the intense cold expected through February 9 is putting significant pressure on the electricity network in the area.

With very cold temperatures forecast for Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the grid could reach its maximum capacity. Without a reduction in electricity use, short, temporary and controlled power outages may be required.

Hydro Québec is asking for everyone’s cooperation by reducing electricity consumption during periods of high demand, specifically:
– from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m
– from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

How you can help:
– lower your heating by a few degrees and heat only occupied rooms;
– postpone the use of large appliances, such as the dryer and dishwasher;
– use hot water outside peak periods whenever possible.

Any reduction in electricity use helps lower the risk of service interruptions in the area.

To ensure rapid response if needed, a Hydro Québec crew will be on site in the Pontiac, 24 hours a day, throughout the weekend.

Hydro Québec continues to review short term solutions to ease pressure on the regional grid and is already working on long term reinforcements to improve service reliability.

Thank you for your cooperation. Every effort makes a difference and is greatly appreciated.
