Curbside Recycling, Garbage & Organics – Update 2

December 12, 2025
Chichester

December 2025

In November 2025, the Municipality released an initial information sheet explaining the provincial changes to residual waste management and the transition to a three-stream curbside collection system (recycling, garbage, and organics). This new information sheet continues that exchange by providing practical details based on recent discussions with the contractor, including collection days, bin placement requirements, and an overview of accepted materials. Additional details will be shared in the coming weeks.

Collection Schedule – Municipality of CHICHESTER

  • Collection Days: TUESDAYs (alternating weeks)
  • Recycling: Begins January 6th, 2026 (every two weeks)
  • Garbage and Organics: Begin mid-February, following bin delivery (every other two weeks)

Collection begins at 7:00 a.m. Bins must be placed at the roadside before 7:00 a.m. on collection day.
(please consult the municipal website for the official calendar).

Bin Placement

Collection will take place on municipal roads only. Residents located along private roads must ensure their bins are brought to the municipal road shoulder for collection. Bins must be placed at the end of the driveway, with the wheels slightly off the roadway and the lid facing the street. A clearance of approximately 1 metre (3 feet) around the bin is required.

Bins must not be placed in, on, or behind snowbanks. Property owners may create a cleared area or platform for this purpose.  In some areas, collection will need to occur on the opposite side of the road – affected residents will be contacted directly by the Municipality.

Accepted Materials

♻️ Recycling (Blue Bin – ÉEQ standards)

  • Paper and cardboard (flattened), plastic, metal, and glass containers, all packaging and wrap.
  • Materials may be placed loose or in bags inside the bin.

🗑️ Garbage (Black or Grey Bin)

  • Garbage must be placed in clear bags inside the bin.
  • No materials placed outside the bin will be collected.

🍎 Organics (Brown Bin)

  • Food scraps, meat, dairy products, soiled paper, brown cardboard, leaves, grass, and small trimmings.
  • No plastic bags (including compostable or biodegradable bags) and no ashes.
📌 A detailed list will be published prior to the start of collection.

Contamination and Monitoring

Bins are equipped with barcodes linked to the civic address, and collection trucks are fitted with cameras. Issues are reported to the Municipality, and follow-up may occur in cases of repeated contamination.

Transfer Site

The transfer site will remain open and will continue to accept bulky items, scrap metal, appliances, electronics, paint, and oils. Residents may continue to bring their garbage and recycling to the transfer site; however, as curbside collection becomes the primary service, changes should be expected.

More Information – Coming Soon

A public information session will be held on January 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Harrington Community Centre (64 Pembroke Road, Chapeau).
